The youth hostel Gerlosplatte is located at 1700 meters above sea level on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol in the Zillertal Arena hiking and skiing area and in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The ski area is right outside the door, the Krimml Waterfalls are four kilometers away and the Filzsteinbahn 2000 cable car is 400 meters away. The city center can be reached within 30 minutes on foot.

 

The new building planned by the Salzburg architects Lechner & Lechner opened here in February 2020 with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The building site on the slope is accessed via Hochkrimml Straße. The main building of the youth hostel, which is positioned in the northern part of the area, is made of wood, and rough-sawn larch formwork was used for the facade.
